Considering Eye Surgery Before Summer Vacation… Personalized Planning Is Essential

With summer vacation and school break season approaching, more people are becoming interested in appearance management and planning eye surgery during their recovery period. In particular, interest in procedures with relatively less downtime, such as natural adhesion double eyelid surgery and various canthoplasty procedures, is increasing. However, achieving satisfactory results requires a customized surgical plan that carefully considers each individual’s eye condition and facial proportions.

Eye surgery is not simply about creating double eyelids. A comprehensive analysis of factors such as eye size, symmetry between both eyes, degree of skin sagging, fat volume, and eyelid function is necessary to determine the most suitable surgical method. Depending on the individual’s eye characteristics, procedures such as double eyelid surgery, ptosis correction, inner canthoplasty, outer canthoplasty, upper canthoplasty, and lower canthoplasty may be performed individually or in combination. The surgical technique—such as non-incisional, natural adhesion, or incisional methods—is selected based on factors including eyelid thickness, skin laxity, and overall eye shape.

Recently, as more people prefer a softer and more natural appearance, many patients are seeking double eyelid lines that harmonize with their individual eye shape rather than overly thick or dramatic lines. Natural adhesion is one method that may help create a more natural-looking eyelid crease while minimizing tissue damage. However, it is not suitable for everyone. The most appropriate surgical approach can vary depending on skin thickness, degree of sagging, and eyelid fat volume, making thorough consultation and accurate diagnosis essential.

Canthoplasty procedures also require careful consideration of factors such as horizontal and vertical eye length, distance between the eyes, and the direction of the outer eye corners. Rather than simply making the eyes appear larger, the design should focus on achieving harmony with the overall facial balance for a more natural result. When necessary, canthoplasty may be performed together with double eyelid surgery to create a more balanced improvement.

Additionally, patients who have experienced issues after previous eye surgery, such as a loosened eyelid crease, asymmetry, scarring, or functional discomfort, may consider revision eye surgery. However, revision procedures require a more cautious approach than the first surgery, as the condition of existing tissue adhesions and previous surgical history must be carefully evaluated.

Therefore, when planning eye surgery, decisions should not be based solely on double eyelid surgery reviews, prices, or costs. Instead, factors such as the surgeon’s experience, detailed consultation process, and development of an individualized surgical plan should be prioritized. Among the various types of eye procedures available, selecting the method that best suits one’s eye condition can help improve satisfaction with the final result.

Dr. Seung-ho Choi of Chai Plastic Surgery Clinic in Gangnam stated, “During the summer season, more patients plan eye surgery using their vacations or school breaks for recovery. However, more important than the timing of the procedure is selecting a surgical method that matches each individual’s eye condition and facial proportions.” He added, “Natural adhesion and canthoplasty procedures should not be applied uniformly. Through sufficient consultation and precise diagnosis, customized treatment is necessary to achieve natural results and high patient satisfaction.
